The radiator cap is not simply a cover. It plays an important role in regulating the pressure of the engine cooling system.

Pressure Control Function

As the coolant heats up and expands, pressure inside the radiator increases.

When the pressure exceeds the specified level, the pressure valve inside the radiator cap opens and releases excess pressure to the coolant reservoir tank.

Vacuum Control Function

As the coolant cools and contracts, pressure inside the radiator decreases.

When negative pressure occurs, the vacuum valve opens and allows coolant to return from the reservoir tank to maintain proper system pressure.

Proper radiator cap operation helps maintain cooling system efficiency and engine performance.
